Halo brows: New beauty trend is playful and loopy

The world of beauty trends is a constantly evolving landscape, with social media serving as both a breeding ground for new ideas and a powerful platform for their rapid dissemination. The latest eyebrow craze to sweep across platforms like TikTok and Instagram is the “halo brow,” a unique look that involves connecting the tails of both eyebrows to form a single, looping arc across the forehead.

This unconventional style was born from the mind of 16-year-old British influencer Hannah Lyne. Inspired by the existing fishtail brow trend, Lyne envisioned extending the brow tails until they met in the center of her forehead, creating a halo-like effect. “I was having a conversation with a friend trying to come up with a new idea for a look, and all of a sudden it came to me that I should connect my brow tails,” she explained to Pop Sugar.

Lyne’s initial Instagram post showcasing the halo brow quickly went viral, sparking a flurry of reactions. While some users praised her creativity and artistic expression, many others expressed strong disapproval. Comments ranged from playful disbelief (“I can’t tell if she’s joking”) to outright disgust (“Vomits Uncontrollably”).

“I’m deleting Instagram because of this photo,” declared one user, highlighting the polarizing nature of the trend.

Despite the initial wave of criticism, some beauty publications, such as Cosmopolitan, found an unexpected appeal in the halo brow. They described the look as “strangely beautiful” and a testament to the ever-pushing boundaries of beauty expression.

The halo brow trend serves as a microcosm of the broader influence of social media on beauty standards. It demonstrates how easily fleeting trends can emerge and gain traction, often fueled by a combination of shock value, user engagement, and the inherent desire for novelty within the beauty community.

While the longevity of the halo brow remains uncertain, its rapid rise and subsequent discussion highlight the dynamic and ever-changing nature of beauty trends in the digital age. As social media continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more unconventional and unexpected beauty trends emerge, pushing the boundaries of self-expression and challenging traditional notions of beauty.
